II. About Hongshou Studio

Hongshou Studio is an indie game development studio based in Chengdu China. Below are some information on the inspired back story of the game:

Why we created Eagarnlnia?

We have always felt that "war" is a theme that spurs endless imagination in one's mind - just because we don't live it, doesn't mean we can't appreciate it from both a historical and even artistic perspective. Taking out the suffering of war, we could better explore the depths of a war-based game - putting yourself in the shoes of a war general, leading an army of hundreds or even thousands; or as a ruler of a kingdom...We wanted to create a virtual world where we can experience these feelings and explore the depths of war and strategy...ultimately seeing the consequences of our decisions.

Because a lot of games now use history as a reference - such as the city battles that took place in Ancient Greece, or conquers of the Roman Empire, religious wars in the Middle Ages, China's warring states and the three kingdoms, the Sengoku period in Japan, and finally near our lifetime the World Wars, we don't see a lot of original war-like story IPs that are turned into games - based on a complete fictional creation of a warring world.

I have been massively intrigued by original IP stories such as Lord of the Rings and A Song of Ice and Fire, both wildly immersive. This led to my strong belief that strategy games can also build upon a new, wildly creative, wildly open and imaginative world. There's nothing that I'd rather hope more than to wander in a world of swords and magic across the continents.

Why we chose this art style for Eagarlnia

I would have to say being a fanboy of some of the most popular Japanese comics during my childhood such as Slayer, Record of Lodoss War, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen; these are some scenes of sword and magic that are still extremely memorable to me.

We wanted to pick a rare artistic representation, unlike the widely used realistic style.

How did Eagarlnia come to being?

Actually this originates from my addiction to a Japanese fantasy comic called Record of Lodoss War during my teen years; I jotted down heroes, their age, what they look like, their back stories...it was something basic that I created out of a reference to this comic.

Later on, I started working. When I had spare time, I continued to work on this fantasy world, I gave it more of a framework. I told myself that one day given the chance, I would present this world to a wider audience.
